AUSXIP Charity Auction - Renee Charity Update

As many of you know this year's auction raised money for Starship, The ROC Outreach Fund and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (Crystal Chappell).

The money for Starship went direct to Starship, the money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was given to Crystal directly and we have finally handed the auction money for Renee's charity to Renee this week. The delay in handing over the loot was due to Renee's filming schedule (she's filming Moby Dick and of course Beyond The Farthest Star movies).

There has been a change to our original stated charity. Renee has chosen to send the money to the Tambo Foundation in Peru. Originally we said that the money will be going to the Haiti / Chili earthquake relief funds.

Thanks to everyone once again for supporting the auction. We raised $17,610 which was an amazing result!

Ark and Renee on AfterEllen

ImageAs for things you can actually watch right now, Renee O'Connor (from Xena, duh) is currently starring in a new, wonderfully creepy sci-fi webseries called Ark .

ImageThe show features some of the creepiest, most intriguing action this side of the original Alien and The Matrix. Here's what O'Connor herself had to say about it:

It's about this woman who wakes up, and she finds herself on this "ark," and she's in space and she has to figure out how to get home. And there's a really strange ending where you're not really sure if it's a set-up, or if it's part of a higher conspiracy... It has an Alien-esque feel to it. It's very dark and moody.

Renee's New Movie "Moby Dick" Update

In io9's interview with Renee, she revealed a little more about her new movie with Trey Stokes based on the classic story "Moby Dick". Renee is in the role of Ishmael. For those not familiar with the story:

Ishmael is the narrator (and arguably the protagonist) of the 1851 novel Moby-Dick by U.S. author Herman Melville. It is through his eyes and experience that the reader experiences the story of the ship Pequod, and the fight between Captain Ahab and the white whale. He is a central character in the action in the early part of the novel, essentially fulfilling all the requirements of being a conventional protagonist. After the Pequod leaves Nantucket, he increasingly recedes into the background as a commentator, with his voice approaching that of an omniscient narrator at times, able to see into all parts of the ship and into the private motivations of other characters.

Renee said:

And O'Connor added that she and Stokes are also working together on a full-length movie for The Asylum, makers of Transmorphers, Titanic II, Princess Of Mars and Mega Python Vs. Gatoroid. It's a reimagining of Moby Dick, in which they fight a "mega whale." O'Connor isn't sure if this whale is mutated, or just extremely giant by whale standards. Barry Bostwick (Brad from Rocky Horror Picture Show) plays Captain Ahab, and O'Connor plays Ishmael. "At the end, I'm rowing in the coffin. It's fun, we're having fun."

Renee Filming New Movie - Moby Dick

According to this article on Dreadcentral.com - The Asylum Hunts Moby Dick - Renee has just begun filming a high-tech version of Moby Dick for The Asylum (makers of movies like Jolly Roger - Massacre At Cutter's Cove, Transmorphers, 2012: Supernova, Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus, Mega Python vs. Gatoroid, Cheerleader Camp, etc. etc. etc

Barry Bostwick (The Rocky Horror Picture Show, "Spin City") and Renee O'Connor (Xena's sidekick "Gabrielle") have just begun filming The Asylum's take of Moby Dick, set to be released to DVD on November 23rd.

A modern adaptation of the classic novel of the captain of a high tech submarine and his obsessive quest to destroy the enormous prehistoric whale that maimed him.

Whether this Moby Dick will attempt to follow in the campy footsteps (Should that be finsteps?) of previous over-the-top aquatic Asylum schlockers Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus and Mega Piranha or attempt to be a more straightforward modernization with shades of science fiction remains to be seen.
