What makes a great sidekick? Gabrielle (Renee O'Connor) is Featured

Image

No TV cop show, medical drama or sitcom is complete unless the lead has a trusty sidekick.

Sidekicks come in all shapes and sizes. But what makes a sidekick memorable? Here are some of our favourites.

Gabrielle (Renee O'Connor) began Xena: Warrior Princess as a naive young woman fleeing an arranged marriage and relying on Xena (Lucy Lawless) to be her protector.

But after six seasons, Gabrielle was more than capable of looking after herself and, also sometimes, Xena.

It was heavily implied throughout the series that the pair had formed a romantic attachment but it was only several years after the show finished that producers confirmed Xena and Gabrielle were indeed a couple.

From Renee: Sea Turtle In Emerald Coast Art On Ebay - Raising Awareness About Fragile Habitats

The following is from Renee on Instagram

realreneeoconnor “Sea Turtles in Emerald Coast”

https://www.ebay.com/itm/163086728541

Raising awareness about the fragile habitats for the thousands of turtles who return here every year to lay their eggs. Renewing licenses for oil drilling here is highly likely to lead to devastating consequences (Deep Horizon Oil Spill still has residual effects in the ocean floor there. Improved Security measures to prevent similar disaster cannot be proven)
Thank you!

From Renee: Art and Upcoming Prints!

Here's some exciting news for fans of Renee's original art (like me). Renee has begun to post her art on Instagram and I took the opportunity to ask if we would be able to buy prints. I have one of Renee's Greek island prints and it's been hanging in my office for quite a few years. It's one of my favourite pieces.

Renee's response was:

"Yes, Mary, as soon as I get all my ideas out of my head and on canvas. It may be towards the beginning of Sept. I'll let you know. thank you!"

realreneeoconnor: After a long hiatus, my new oil painting is up for a new home:

After many years away from painting, I have been inspired to share my narratives again, with oil on canvas. This one is a favorite, the 'Golden Siren', inspired by my time in New Zealand, all the ridiculously loud peacocks around my home in California, and the work of Gustav Klimt. The copyright for the 'Golden Siren' will be retained by my company, ROC Productions, for future prints. Thank you! Renee O'Connor

Photos of Renee from Romeo and Juliet by Steven Sears

ImageSteven has taken some fantastic photos of Renee and Miles in Romeo and Juliet. He posted the following on Facebook:

Last May, I was thrilled to attend the performance of "Romeo and Juliet" by the Southern Shakespeare Company in Tallahassee, Florida. As many know, Renee O'Connor played the Nurse and Miles Muir played Romeo. It was fantastic! And, if you know me, you know there are photos. Lots of photos. And they are..... here. #Xenites #SouthernShakespeareCompany #Shakespeare Southern Shakespeare Company
